Hi — I'm Brodie.
I'm a registered architect, and I started Sunlight & Shelter to be the person I wish more people had beside them when they take on the biggest project of their lives.
For years I watched good people make big, expensive, irreversible decisions about their homes — often alone, often frightened, often with no one in their corner who wasn't also trying to sell them something.
Builders want to build. Agents want to sell. Banks want to lend. Everyone has a stake, and none of it is quite yours.
I wanted to be the exception: an independent architect whose only job is to help you make a calm, informed decision — and then stay beside you while you carry it out.
What I believe
A home shouldn't announce itself. It should simply be felt — in the morning light across the floor, in the quiet when you close the door behind you, in the way a family fits around a kitchen without thinking about it.
Get the fundamentals right early — sunlight, shelter, orientation, flow — and the rest of the home quietly follows. Most of my work is helping people slow down just enough at the start to get those right.
How I work
Plainly. I explain everything in language you'd use yourself. I'm honest about cost, about planning, and about whether I'm even the right fit — sometimes the kindest thing I can tell someone is "not yet" or "not me".
And I stay. From the first unhurried conversation to the day you get the keys, you're working with one architect who knows your home, your hopes and your history with the project.
The practice
Sunlight & Shelter works with homeowners across Melbourne and regional Victoria — renovations, extensions, new homes, and pre-purchase advice for buyers.
I'm a registered architect (801663 VIC, AMR-003408 NSW), a member of the RAIA and ArchiTeam.
> The work is technical. The promise is human: you won't do this alone.
